A new interface for network technology specialists
With a custom made interface, IxDS puts the power of a novel algorithm, developed by telecom infrastructure provider Nokia Siemens Networks, into the hands of network administrators.
Network administrators have to get a quick grip on large datasets, that they retrieve e.g.e as log files from devices throughout a network. With service offerings and tools for fixed and mobile networks, NSN has a tremendous expertise in handling diverse infrastructure. They now developed new algorithms to filter effectively through highly heterogenous data.
IxDS helps NSN to build an appropriate user interface for these algorithms, so that they become a powerful tool for network administrators. Since administrators often have to make decisions under time pressure, the interface needs to be easy to use despite the complex technology in the background.
User centered design for technology experts
We needed to get a solid understanding of the daily work of administrators and find about their needs and preferences. Following NSN’s world wide user base, we collected user requirements from an international group of participants.
Important components of the solution are a tailored-to-the-usecase data visualization and flexible, interactive filtering mechanics. With our iterative development process, we implement a prototype that lets us refine and validate our design. Even more importantly, this prototype will be included in a field test so that our administrator feedback group can support us directly with their experiences from practice.
